Experiment Gone Bad!
DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!
My Worms vs. Lettuce experiment went south fast! As a result, you are looking at a pound of dead worms. The lettuce broke down quickly, resulting in a major release of water (as happens with all produce as it decomposes). Redworms love gravitating to pooled water. Anyone that has ever fed redworms to fish knows that the worms can actually survive in water that is aerated(It’s common to find redworms alive among the aquarium pebbles)….but in this case, the liquid turned stagnant, and the worms simply rotted.
I’m hoping that this experiment was not done in vain, and if nothing else, everyone now understands that worms cannot live in rotting scraps….worms EAT rotting scraps(The microbial sludge), but LIVE in carbon based bedding.
I’ve sacrificed a pound of worms so HOPEFULLY nobody else needs to.
What’s the moral to this story?…Bedding, Bedding, Bedding! Bedding is your friend. You cannot have too much FLUFFY bedding. It’s the difference between live worms….and the worms in the pics above.
