This black earth is known as Terra Preta soil, and to this day, Terra Preta is revered as a growing medium. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/terra_preta

What are Soil Cubes?
A Soil cube is a cube of growing medium that has been lightly compressed and shaped by a form. A soil cube serves as both a container and the soil for starting and growing seedlings, eliminating the need for plastic pots and trays for transplanted seedlings. Seedlings grown in soil cubes form stronger root systems than those grown in containers due to increased oxygen to the roots and the soil cube’s natural tendency to “prune” roots. This creates a substantial advantage when seedlings are transplanted into the field, because plants establish themselves more quickly and, because of lessened root disruption, they are less prone to transplant shock.
They’re the scariest looking worms around.
They’re ZOMBIE worms.
Simple to raise in damp peat moss, or a couple of inches of oatmeal. Add a few slices of apple or carrot. That’s all you need!
Unlike mealworms that need to be kept chilled, Zombie worms LOVE room temperature. No worms in the fridge (You’re welcome mom).
Feed your Zombie worms to your chickens and your reptiles. They will go NUTS chasing down the Zombie’s.
Keep a few Zombie Worms for breeding purposes, and you will have perpetual feeders. Zombie Worms will morph into beetles, the beetles will lay eggs, and then die (OR WILL THEY)???…leaving you with up to 500 Zombie Worm babies.
You can’t go wrong with these easy to breed Zombie’s.
